IDAV Researchers win best paper award at IEEE Visualization 2013
IDAV Researchers Mathias Hummel and Christoph Garth from the University of Kaiserslautern, and Harald Obermaier and Kenneth I. Joy have won the best paper award at IEEE Visualization 2013. The paper "Comparative Analysis of Lagrangian Transport in CFD Ensembles" is one of the first papers to discuss visualization of flow ensembles.

Hank Childs to take a faculty position at the University of Oregon
Hank Childs has accepted a faculty position in the Computer and Information Sciences Department at the University of Oregon. Hank has held a joint positions between Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Institute for Data Analysis and Visualization at UC Davis for the past 3 years. He will joint the faculty at UO in the spring of 2013.

John Owens awarded CUDA Fellow
John Owens has been awarded a "CUDA Fellow" by NVIDIA for his contributions to the areas of CUDA architecture and parallel computing. He joins the rank of 8 other researchers who have been appointed to this group. The CUDA Fellow Program was established to recognize, reward and assist researchers who use the CUDA architecture within their disciplines.

Hank Childs is awarded DoE Early Career Award
Hank Childs who has a joint appointment between UC Davis and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has been awarded the DoE Early Career Award for his work in "Data Exploration at the Exascale". Dr. Childs is a Professional Researcher in IDAV, and a Staff Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

Misha Shashkov awarded Sandia Executive Fellowship
Misha Shashkov has been awarded the Sandia Executive Fellowship, which funds a student throughout their graduate career. Misha will be working collaboratively with Sandia Scientists, performing research in visualization and virtual reality.

IDAV researchers receive new funding through the DoE's SDAV Institute
The Department of Energy, through the has awarded $25 million over a five year period to University and National Laboratory researchers to establish the the Scalable Data Management, Analysis, and Visualization (SDAV) Institute, IDAV researchers Ken Joy and Hank Childs are a partner in this institute (UC Davis portion, $2.12 million)
